Sir Alex Ferguson has moved to publicly assure Scotland vice-captain, Darren Fletcher, that he will play an integral part in next seasons defence of the Premiership, and Champions League.
The competition for places in United’s midfield was rife last season, with Hargreaves, Scholes, Carrick, Anderson, Ronaldo, Nani, Park, Giggs, and Fletcher, all battling for starting roles.
The 24-year old, who has been capped 36 times for Scotland, will be hoping to receive more game-time next season, as he was restricted to only 11 appearances last term.
Sir Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports: “He has been unlucky, but he always comes back. He is an important player. He does well in the big games and that brings great value to the club, he will play his part.”
Fletcher believes you have to use disappointment from injury, and not playing every week, to fuel you on: “If you are not selected then you must say to yourself ‘I will be an impact player if I get on’.
"I have picked up injuries at bad times, but you can’t let your head down. We have a great squad, I just have to be patient.”
